I had the honor of playing in a kaleidoscope of expression at a vocal workshop watching Darren Percival in his artistry is witnessing poetry in motion. He is the personification of expression and I love how he creates experiences for people to 'see and hear themselves' and break through fears that are keeping their natural essence and life artistry under lock and key. Darren Percival offers full voice, full heart, and full presence to every appearance, from a workshop for seven people in a tiny tent to holding an Amphitheatre enthralled in a headline show. Darren shares his gifts not only as a performer, but as a facilitator, wherever he is needed. I don't believe anyone could ever go wrong asking him to be a part of what they're making.

I am the one that you promised you wouldn't pick on if I ever sat in the front row. I love to whistle and I am very good at it. I've been working really hard the last couple of years on my anxiety and on my Asperger's Syndrome. More on my anxiety because that is something I don't have to be stuck with for the rest of my life. I went to India for a month in January all by myself volunteered with the Sister's of Mercy in Calcutta.

During the first week I was there, 5 babies (between 1 day old and 6 months old) had been dumped at the orphanage the night before. The 5 month old cried non-stop for 10 days, even in her sleep. I was holding her and rocking her and I was singing one of your songs to her. At the beginning she was crying and by the end she was smiling.

I think children are the most honest people and it was really cool to see and know that even with my little voice singing your song I could change a persons whole mood and brighten their day. Maybe I will start using my voice more often.

I first met Darren in 1997, at a vocal workshop in Brisbane. For years, I had been trying to find my way out of my head voice. I wanted to sing without fear, without the sense that I was always on the verge of sounding terrible, of running out of air, of singing flat. Preoccupation with the mechanics couldn't save me, and I was afraid to trust anyone who tried to tell me anything I didn't already know!
How can I tell you what happened on that first day? There was something about him, even then. That string bean of a lad Knew Whereof He Spoke! He Knew. And I wanted that. I wanted the knowledge he had.
An ex of mine used to say, "Darren is the only person you ever listen to!"
I would amend that by saying, "I listen to Darren with every fibre of myself when he talks about music; about singing and songwriting and tapping into the Muse."
This man has become many things to me over the years: a friend, a colleague, a brother. And I am not ashamed to say it has been his influence more than any other, that has guided me to the place I sing from now. The light is on, and I can only follow it.
